I have so much respect for designers with bold visions!! The ripple effect is being commissioned to produce incredibly fun works like this reception feature wall designed by Beyond Beige Interior Design for Stirling Law's new office in Pacific Center. Referenced from the Lions gate bridge this bas-relief needed to be light weight for placement and a quick install. The lion was hand sculpt from foam, hard coated in polyurethane and the wall was faux concrete paint finished. We installed the lion and painted the wall in a day. I have to say after mixing concrete for 15 years - it was incredibly satisfying to faux finish that will with paint.
Luxury seating and lots to see before the movie starts
The first step in building the perfect man cave is to literally design a cave. The next step - call Wavestone Sculpture - we'll do the rest. This was the approach our client took for his private home theater. 'John.D' wanted a mine shaft home theater, he had an idea of the basic layout and the special features he wanted but had no idea where to start for the integration of the rock work. We set up a meeting, took a look at the open space and quickly drafted some ideas onsite and then got to work. Sometimes, it can be that simple.

We literally came to the site and took some measurements, gave a quote and the next step was getting straight to work. No costly design plans, no lengthy correspondence - the client simply said - I like your work, I want a cave. It doesn't happen often but I like to point this out as proof that you can work under your own terms and conditions. We certainly didn't mind.

Over the past ten years living on Bowen Island I've had the pleasure to partially work from home. While 90% of my work is completed onsite due to scale, some projects are small enough to create right here at home. Nearly all of my projects are commission based and nature seems to be a fitting market for an artist living on the roughed and wild west coast of Canada. It's hard not to be inspired by nature when you live in this environment. It's even harder to rationalize how we see ourselves as separate from nature as if we have somewhere else to live....ahhh humans....

This sculpture was created for the Assiniboine Park Zoo in Manitoba. This is a common pose when polar bears are hunting and looking into breathing holes located in the ice - watch out seals and well...anything coming up for air. I love commissions for learning and education exhibits because of the specific requirements which informs the work. I would never have thought of putting a bear in this pose.

This is a fun blast from the past. I sculpted this bear back in 2007. It was the first large sculpture I made that was not a commission. I just wanted to sculpt a black bear catching a fish on a rock. No heavy concept just hey - lets sculpt a bear. It sat in my studio for a few years before finding it's home in West Vancouver.
Translucent Rock Cod by Bowen Island sculptor Trent Hutton
This work was purely to test a new gel resin material I had made by specific request. I wanted a translucent gel that I could brush into a one piece mold so that I didn't have to pour full molds (very expensive) or make complicated molds for monolithic sculptural works. The material worked great and I cast two fish, one placed outdoors and one indoors for over four years. They are both still in excellent condition. It's an excellent product for large scale translucent sculptures, perfect for indoors or outdoors.

Opening Day of Burke Mountain Pioneer Park in Coquitlam BC
The rain stopped and the sun came out for the official opening of Burke Mountain Pioneer Park in Coquitlam BC. It was a really nice opening with a tasty bbq, live music, fun games and a few words from the City of Coquitlam and Wesbild. The beautiful 4.4 acre park was designed by Durante Kreuk Ltd. Landscape Architecture and funding was shared equally by the City of Coquitlam and Wesbild. It was a pleasure working on this project and we're thrilled to have provided the sculptural play equipment.

Polymorphic Horse and Foal Concrete Play Sculpture
Please join the official opening of the new Burke Mountain Pioneer Park located in Coquitlam British Columbia. Wavestone hand sculpted this play sculpture on location. The new park also includes a grass sports field, sports court, table games, a community garden and open lawn picnic area.
Cantu Booth 2015 Luxury Home and Design Show
Wavestone Sculpture was proud to supply the villa stone walls for Cantu's booth at this years Luxury Home and Design show held at the Vancouver Convention Centre. This stunning booth was designed by Catherine Adams and built by Euro Canadian Construction. The booth stole the show and won with the most voted show suite.
Coyote footprint in snow
Wavestone now produces snow and ice for interactive exhibits! These samples were recently developed for an indoor visitor centre which requires an extremely tough material for public contact. The snow and ice look exceptionally real especially when placed within our rock work! The snow and ice can withstand any climate condition and is suitable for underwater designs - such as polar exhibits!
This cozy rock surround was built around a Jacuzzi J-210, transforming a small walk out patio into a spa oasis that blends right into this stunning west coast property. The rock surround was hand carved with GFRC on location.
